Maria Dancing Heart was born in Tokyo, Japan, daughter of Lutheran missionaries. She spent her childhood growing up in Japan, attending Japanese public schools through the eighth grade. As a result, she is bilingual and bicultural, and has used her language and cultural skills in a variety of ways through the years. After finishing high school at Canadian Academy in Kobe, Japan, she moved to the United States for college. She graduated from Yale College, and later attended seminary and received her Masters of Divinity from Chicago Theological Seminary in 1984. Catherine Larget-Caplan is a certified Shiatsu practitioner with over 20 years of experience. She has healed injuries large and small, as well as prevented numerous surgeries. Catherine's alternative & holistic education began at age 15 upon commencing Macrobiotic & far eastern philosophies in her native France.

Throughout her childhood, Catherine was plagued with recurring injuries, breathing problems, other body related issues. At age 21 she could not run anymore, & after going to numerous alternative & western doctors she decided to take control of her healing & life. Judith Lajoie, Ma. is a formerly battered woman, who along with Susan Mansfield opened the Haven of Grace in 1992. The Haven of Grace is a long-term transitional housing program for homeless women. The women who come to the Haven may be homeless as a result of battering, addictions, mental health issues, or general poverty. The program is designed to be long term with women being encouraged to remain two or more years. It is the mission of the Haven to "empower women to overcome poverty of body, mind and spirit". We work to empower women so that they may overcome the causes of their homelessness and to move on with their lives in a positive direction. We encourage the women to obtain their high school diplomas and to go on to college; we encourage women to become gainfully employed and free from state systems. The Haven offers counseling (individual and group), spiritual guidance, the twelve step program, mindfulness classes, life skills and any other basic skills needed to live independently and successfully.
