Return to the Long Beach Boardwalk

On Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish religion. I always make it my business to return to the ocean for a healing meditation and to send distant healing to those in need of it. I hadn’t been there since Hurricane Sandy, which destroyed the entire boardwalk and many of the surrounding towns on the south shore of Long Island, New York.  It was cooler than usual for this holiday, which is usually sizzling hot and there was a cool breeze and warm sun pouring down on me. It actually felt like I had never been away from this peaceful place. Suddenly, out of the corner of my eye, I recognized a mother and her two children who used to visit the children’s occupational therapist in my office. We had spoken over the years and she was always joyful and pleasant, even though her autistic son required much of her time and attention- she maintained a state of balance. I told her it was my first time back at the ocean and I was there to send healing as my way of connecting to universal energy and love, though others might have wished I was in the temple praying. She asked me to send healing to her and her family, and I felt it was no coincidence that she arrived the moment I sat down. It was almost as if I was brought there to share a moment of support.

When I returned home, I noticed a small nail in my right rear tire. A week ago I had thought to myself, I hadn’t had a flat in this car. Was I picking up an intuition of what was to come? I think so and since I was traveling that evening some distance to the join the family for the holiday, and the next day an even farther distance, I decided to go right over to the gas station to get it fixed. The attendant told me the mechanic left at 2:00 and would not be returning. While the tank was being filled, suddenly, in drove the mechanic and said he could help me. When I told him the thought I had a week ago, he said he had a similar thought, and that is why he returned to the station. Wasn’t I glad another person was listening to their inner being? It cost me quite a bit for a new tire, but still I was grateful and thankful that I had received the help without breaking down somewhere along the road on a holiday weekend. Sometimes we have to be thankful even when the event seems unpleasant, for in actuality, it is in how we handle the challenge that speaks to the faith and trust that we have in Spirit.
