Title: Giving Peace Wings: The Power of Connection, Creativity and Change
In this episode of Friends With The World, Michelle Villegas welcomes artist, author, illustrator, sculptor, and educator Sue DiCicco-Smith.
From her early career as an animator to her work creating and illustrating children’s books, sculpture, and arts programs for young people. Sue has dedicated her creative gifts to inspiring imagination and connection.
Sue is also the founder of Armed with Arts and the Peace Crane Project, a global initiative that brings people together through the simple act of folding an origami crane and sharing a personal message of peace. What began with a question—What can artists do to make a difference?—has grown into an opportunity for children and adults around the world to connect across cultures, borders, and communities.
In this inspiring conversation, Sue shares the story behind the Peace Crane Project, its connection to Sadako Sasaki and Hiroshima, and her journey to Japan to learn more about Sadako’s life and legacy.
She also reflects on the power of creativity to help children develop confidence, empathy, curiosity, and a sense of connection to the larger world.
At its heart, this conversation is a reminder that peace isn’t something we simply wait for others to create. Each of us can use our own gifts, creativity, and connections to help bring about positive change.
One crane. One connection. One person can help give peace wings.

New Event with Michelle Villegas
A SPECIAL INVITATION FOR CHILDREN TO BE PART OF FRIENDS WITH THE WORLD!
My son, Josh Villegas and I are inviting a small group of children to add their voices to our original song, Friends of the World.
The song celebrates friendship, kindness, empathy, and connection, and it is inspiring a children’s book that is currently in development. We would love to include a few children’s voices to help bring this message to life.
No singing experience is necessary. We are looking for children who connect with the heart of the song and would enjoy being part of a meaningful and creative project.
Participation may take place in person and/or remotely, making it possible for children from different communities and locations to be involved.
Written Parent or guardian permission is required for all participants.
Interested? Contact michelle at friendswiththeworld.com
If your child would like to be considered, please submit an inquiry through the website contact form and include:
- Child’s name and age
- City, State/Province, and Country
- A brief note about why your child would like to participate
- Whether your child would participate in person or remotely

SoulCollage Workshops with Michelle Villegas
Michelle is a certified SoulCollage® facilitator. SoulCollage® is a creative and therapeutic process that combines images, intuition, and self-exploration to create a personal deck of collaged cards. It was developed by Seena Frost, a psychotherapist and author, in the late 1980s.
The process of creating SoulCollage® cards involves selecting images from magazines, books, or other printed materials that resonate with you personally. These images are then cut out and assembled on a card in a way that feels visually appealing or meaningful to you. The resulting collage becomes a unique representation of different aspects of your inner self, desires, dreams, and emotions.
The cards created in SoulCollage® often depict archetypes, personal symbols, or significant themes in one’s life. They can represent various facets of your personality, relationships, life experiences, and spiritual journey. Each card holds personal meaning and can serve as a visual reflection of your inner world.
Once the cards are created, they can be used for self-exploration, introspection, and personal growth. Individuals may engage in various activities and practices with their SoulCollage® cards, such as journaling, meditation, visualization, or using the cards as prompts for self-reflection and dialogue.
