08-08-19 Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #361 Part One

Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour was recorded at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts on a perfect July day in 2019 and features songs by Mariam Massaro and improvisations from the Gaea Star Band with Mariam on vocals, native flute, acoustic guitar and ukulele, Bob Sherwood on piano and Craig Harris on congas and native drums.  We begin today with the sprightly, upbeat folk of “Keep It Simple” which features Mariam with a bright, lovely vocal and steady congas from Craig.  Next up is the floating, mystical improvisation of “The Grace Of Light”, an unhurried expression featuring evocative minor/major shifts and imaginative piano from Bob.  The lush, shaded, minor flavor of “Who Do You Think You Are” sets a stage for a lovely improvised lyric from Mariam and “Sailing Home To The Light Of The Morning” is a gracious, love-filled ballad led by Mariam’s acoustic guitar and again featuring a lovely improvised lyric and melody from Mariam.  We return to a subtle and disquieting minor motif with the stately “Divine Mother”, an expansive ragaesque piece full of jazz inflections from Bob.  Next up is a lush, wide-open reading of Mariam’s “Your Eyes Shine” from her “Smooth Sailin’ Love Songs” album medleyed with the driving, powerful “Reborn” from the “Gaea Star Crystal:  Awakening the Tribes Of Light” album.  The stately “Spirit Of Fire” from the “Vision Quest” album follows, and we close the show with the gorgeous, aching “To The Crystal Realm”, a beautiful rumination decorated with Mariam’s always-compelling native flute.
