The Healing Power of Canine Therapy
This week, Dr. Judy is pleased to welcome Theresa Piasta, author, blogger, founder and CEO of Puppy Mama. She joins us from San Francisco, California where she lives with her husband and Waffles, their Cavapoo. Theresa’s careers before founding Puppy Mama are incredibly diverse, starting with her 14 years of Army service where as a Captain in a Field Artillery Brigade, she led a large team to defend thousands of soldiers and contractors on a base near the Iranian border. She was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for her service. Theresa also spent 6 years as an executive in the Investment Bank and Sales & Trading businesses. Now, with Puppy Mama, she spreads awareness through a supportive community, advocating for a more dog-friendly world and for the healing power of canine therapy. Theresa believes that dogs of any age heal us and bring incredible joy to our lives; now it’s time for us all to be able to bring our best friends wherever we go. In her mission to facilitate this, Theresa utilizes technology to provide the Puppy Mama community a safe place to share, connect with one another, schedule fun meets with friends, and rate businesses, travel services, and hotels. Her Puppy Mama app was designed to help pet parents to promote a more dog-friendly world. This is a very special show for all pet owners where you can hear Theresa explain how she discovered the power of canine therapy, how it inspires and heals women around the world and how Puppy Mama is helping to train service dogs for children in need.
Personalized Medicine is Better Medicine
This week, Dr. Judy welcomes Fred Dijols, CEO and Vinnie Dam, Director of Pharmacy – the co-founders of New York-based Mixlab, a veterinary compounding pharmacy. Fred, with a long career in the healthcare industry, joins us from New York where he lives with his wife Francesca, their son Quinton and Bob the pug. His certifications include an MBA from Harvard Business School and an MSc from Stanford University. Vinnie, the Director of Pharmacy, earned his PharmD and MS from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychobiology from the University of California, Los Angeles. He has over a decade of experience compounding medications for both pets and humans as a pharmacist. A Brooklyn resident, he is the proud pet parent to his beloved Klee Kai, Sophie, and his frisky Abyssinians, Cooper and Dexter. His pharmacy expertise and love for animals inspired him to found Mixlab with the goal of providing the best care possible for all patients. Sharing a strong belief that personalized medicine is better medicine, Fred and Vinnie teamed up to create Mixlab with facility that was purpose-built from the ground up with the latest compounding technology, enabling effortless provision of expertly-mixed medications of the highest quality to all. While you may not live in New York, you’ll want to learn more as Dr. Judy, Fred and Vinnie discuss the benefits of compounding medicines and how to find a pharmacy that can provide similar services for you.

Dr. Morgan grew up in Pitman and Woodstown, NJ, where she graduated high school as valedictorian in 1977. In 1980 she graduated from Rutgers with a Bachelor of Science and received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 1984. Dr. Morgan is also a certified and accredited veterinary acupuncturist, chiropractitioner, and food therapist.
Based in southern New Jersey, Dr. Morgan currently operates two veterinary hospitals that offer an integrative approach combining holistic medicine with traditional Western techniques. Holistic practices such as chiropractic, acupuncture, food therapy, and herbal therapy, are utilized alongside conventional medicine to provide a full range of veterinary treatment.
The ability to utilize both kinds of therapies offers her clients many more options than using a single method of healing. In many cases, using this approach also allows earlier identification and treatment of impending problems.
Outside of the office Dr. Morgan spends much of her time working with Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and English Toy Spaniel rescue groups by assisting in finding, transporting, and fostering neglected animals. She is Chief Veterinary Medical Officer for Monkey’s House dog hospice and senior sanctuary.
