Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction, relaxation, and promoting healing that involves the transfer of “life force energy” through the practitioner’s hands onto or near the client’s body. The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words: “Rei” meaning “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and “Ki” meaning “life force energy,” so Reiki translates to “spiritually guided life force energy.” During a session, a practitioner places their hands on or just above the recipient, aiming to balance energy flows, which is believed to help with physical, emotional, and spiritual healing. Reiki is considered a simple, natural, and safe method of energy healing that is often used alongside other medical treatments for relaxation and wellbeing, though scientific evidence for its effectiveness is lacking.

Ifetayo White (Ifetayo means Love that brings Joy) is a Usui Shinpiden Reiki Teacher and Practitioner and community elder who is a grandmother and mother to two daughters, a son-in-law, and many more. She followed her heart from Washington D.C. to coastal Beaufort SC where she was the first Reiki teacher in 2000.
