07-21-22 Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #498 is an hour of visionary acoustic improvisational music sung and played by The Gaea Star Band with Mariam Massaro on vocals, Native flute, dulcimer, 4- and 8-string ukuleles and acoustic guitar, Bob Sherwood on piano and Craig Harris on Native drums and congas. Recorded live in July of 2022 at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts, we begin today’s hour with the lovely, percolating “Sweep On Your Dreams”, a pretty, driving summer ballad led by Mariam’s chiming 8-string ukulele. “Coming Around” follows, a stately ballad featuring rich piano work from Bob in consort with Mariam’s dulcimer, and “Hitch On A Star Of Light” is an evocative, sparse tone poem featuring Craig’s steady conga work and a fine vocal from Mariam. “Revel In Nature’s Glory” is a driving minor jazz-folk song full of fiery flute ostinatos from Mariam and racing, lit-up piano work from Bob. A pair of mystical folk songs follow, Mariam’s mysterious “Ryalia” and the gratitude prayer “One More Day” from the “Release” album. We finish today’s hour with a solemn, empassioned take of Mariam’s anthem “Freedom”.
