12-31-20 Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #424 is an hour of live, improvised visionary acoustic music played by The Gaea Star Band with Mariam Massaro on vocals, native flute, acoustic guitar, 12-string acoustic guitar and ukulele, Robin Rooney on vocals, djimbe and percussion, Bob Sherwood on piano, Craig Harris on congas and native drums and special guest Dagen Julty on bass and flute. Recorded live at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts, today’s show begins with the meditative raga “Oh Manakiyahey” featuring a prayer of reverence from Mariam and compelling rhythm from the band. “The Snow Day” is a jaunty winter folk song driven by Mariam’s ukulele and featuring fine flute from Dagen and “In The Forest Of The Trees” walks an ambiguous line between major and minor modalities to deliver its message of reverence to nature. Next up is an excellent rendition of “Pele”, a song in praise to the volcano goddess of Maui and “Carry Me Into Your Heart” is a lilting, beautiful love ballad decorated by more lyrical flute from Dagen and a lovely lyric from Mariam, supported by Robin’s impassioned harmonies. “Brightly Does It Shine” is a driving folk rock song to gratitude featuring driving bass guitar from Dagen and Mariam’s soaring native flute. Today we finish the show with a beautiful track from Mariam’s “For The Children” album, the mysterious and mysteriously catchy “Into The Mystery”.
