Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #311

06-21-18 Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #311 is an hour-long live music show featuring imaginative and visionary improvisation from the Gaea Star Band.  Recorded at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts, today we feature Mariam Massaro on vocals, native flute, harp, ukulele and acoustic guitar, Craig Harris on congas and native drums and Bob Sherwood on piano.  Today we also feature the lovely vocals of Sondra Lewis.  Today’s first song is the mystical “Are We Ready To Go Beyond?”, an imaginative rock song featuring great, weaving vocals from Mariam and Sondra and a driving rhythm section from Bob and Craig.  From a minimal beginning of drums and native flute, the elegant, lush “Moon Beams” is Beatlesque in the best possible way, featuring a mesmerizing chord sequence and a hypnotic, unwavering structure with a gorgeous lyric from Mariam.  “Round and Round We Go” is led by Mariam’s chiming eight-string ukulele and evokes a summer morning with rich piano figures from Bob and a fine melody from Mariam.  “Shamiyaya” is a Hawaiian prayer by Mariam with steady, conscious ensemble playing and “Pacha Mama” is a take of Mariam’s classic with weaving vocals from Mariam and Sondra and a dense, chord-rich piano part from Bob.  Dedicated to Craig’s mother who passed on this week, the pretty, evocative “Passing” is built around Mariam’s acoustic guitar and reflective lyrics.
