Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #278

09-28-17  Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #278 was recorded on a warm fall day at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts and features songs and improves by the Gaea Star Band with Mariam Massaro on vocals, native flute, tuning forks, dulcimer, acoustic guitar and sitar, Craig Harris on congas, drums and balaphone and Bob Sherwood on bass guitar, tabla and piano.  Our first piece today is a driving African-influenced pop-folk song called “May We Light The Candle Of Our Dreams” with smooth harmony vocals and native flute from Mariam and a lovely expanding structure.  “Oh I Greet The Morning’s Creation” is a kinetic, mystical jam with busy, funky bass guitar from Bob against a backing of driving congas from Craig and Mariam’s sparkling dulcimer and native flute.  “Come Pick A Flower In My Garden” is a pretty, classic pop ballad with a lovely lyric and melody from Mariam and gorgeous, floating acoustic guitar and piano interplay.  “Kashinaiyo” is an exotic, driving minor improvisation with a hip vocal from Mariam and bluesy, busy piano from Bob.  Mariam takes up her sitar for the eastern raga of “Shiva’s Rising Above The Precipice” to a rhythm of tabla from Bob and congas from Craig and Bob add modal piano accompaniment to “Rukimini Bayo Water Bearer”.
