09-21-17 Today on Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #277 we bring you four lushly mystical pieces from Mariam Massaro and the Gaea Star Band featuring Mariam on native flute, vocals, percussion, acoustic guitar and chorango, Bob Sherwood on piano and Craig Harris on congas and drums. Recorded at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts on a warm late summer day, Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour 277 begins with “Barduka Bayo”, a tale of precious art, a beautiful, intelligent dog named Shayani and hidden treasure found, featuring compelling storytelling from Mariam told in visionary melody and featuring evocative, sweeping piano figures from Bob and Craig’s sensitive congas. Another visionary story from Mariam follows, this one about a musician called Dimitri Konanstasis who plays music with his many friends in his grandfather’s blessed olive orchard. Mariam accompanies herself on lustrous chorango, weaving through a mesmerizing rhythm of piano and congas. Mariam wields her acoustic guitar for the storm-song “She’s Coming Stronger”, a turbulent song that grows in intensity like Hurricane Irma, unsettled, swirling and touched by the blues. Today’s final inspired improvisation is “Deep Down I Feel So Alive”. A beautiful soul-influenced piece, “Deep Down” features a lovely melody from Mariam, curtains of sparkling chimes and alternately light and driving piano figurations from Bob.
