Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #272

07-27-17  Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #272 was recorded live at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, MA and features the Gaea Star Band with Mariam Massaro on vocals, acoustic guitar, ukulele, native flute and dulcimer, Craig Harris on congas and balaphone and Bob Sherwood on piano.  Today’s first piece is the sprightly, modal tone poem “Boomerang” which sports an descending-ascending chordal figure that plays on the title, as well as a bluesy vocal from Mariam.  “The Sound Of Sweetness” is an outgrowth of the first piece that gradually widens in scope and solidifies the various movements of “Boomerang”.  “Freedom Within” is a delicate, floating piece built around Mariam’s gospel ukulele chords and an elegiac, gradually transforming piano motif from Bob.  “Blessed By Our Life” is a reboot of the same track from 2012’s “The Best Of The Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour”, given a driving rhythm section by Mariam’s chiming dulcimer and steady, energized congas from Craig.  “Hold Me” and “Twin Flames” are both new takes of tracks from Mariam’s “Smooth Sailin’ Love Songs” the former taken as an acoustic-guitar led ballad and the second maintaining the dramatic waltz arrangement of the original.
