01-26-17   Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #247 features the Gaea Star Band with Mariam Massaro on vocals, native flute, acoustic guitar, 12-string guitar and ukulele, Bob Sherwood on piano and Craig Harris on congas and balaphone.  Today we also feature special guest Jay Lynch on percussion.  Today’s first piece is Mariam’s “Oh The Mystery Of It All”, a sacred and mysterious piece that quickly leads into “Unfold Your Treasures”, an imaginative prayer featuring fine vocals and acoustic guitar from Mariam.  “Stella D’Orio” is a lush song about a peaceful and solitary little girl with an alternating major-minor tonality and beautiful native flute from Mariam.  “In The Temple Of Awakening” and “Oh Happy Days” follow on without pause, creating an epic 24-minute piece featuring dramatic recurring themes in the piano and a shifting, dramatic narrative punctuated by drifting native flute.  “Gina Ja Mayaheyho” is a darkly rollicking song about a cat in the middle of the night with swinging congas from Craig and Mariam’s chiming 12-string.  “Grace Fell From The Sky” is a gorgeous folk ballad and “Majra Goria” is an unsettled minor ballad to a goddess, and today’s last song is a rocking take of Mariam’s classic “Pele” with a wall of percussion from Craig and Jay and reggaefied bass from Bob under Mariam’s tight overdubbed harmonies.
