Dave Russell heard and tried chanting for the first time when Swami Satchidananda opened the Woodstock music festival in 1969. By 1972, Dave led his first kirtans for Satchidananda’s Integral Yoga Institute. He leads ecstatic chanting for yoga studios and retreats, personal growth workshops, health resorts, festivals, and weddings in New England and nationally. He invites us to sing and easily experience the joy of the energizing and healing vibrations of chanting. All voices are perfect for kirtan.
Kirtan is an energizing and joyful group practice of singing simple Sanskrit ( and occasional Hebrew and English ) chants set to simple and beautiful melodies. Many of the chants are mantras. Mantra is typically defined as “beyond the mind.” These sound vibrations roll and vibrate through the seven psychic energy centers (chakras) of the body, and open them. It gently raises what yogis call ‘kundalini’ energy, the energy that allows us to energize and revitalize ourselves physically and spiritually. In doing so, we come into greater awareness of our divinity or connection to Source. The experience is that of living in the ‘right brain’ which perceives only living in the moment. Please visitwww.daverussellkirtan.com for more information about Dave and his kirtans. Dave will perform at the 1st Boston Yoga & Chant Fest on June 26th for tickets and more info go to www.shunyamproductions.com
