04-07-22 Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #485 is an hour of visionary acoustic improvisational music played and sung by the Gaea Star Band with Mariam Massaro on vocals, Native flute, acoustic guitar and ukulele, Bob Sherwood on piano and Craig Harris on Native drum and congas. Recorded live at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts in late March of 2022, today’s show begins with the skipping, pretty song for Ukraine “Grateful For My Life” before the band moves into the mystical minor ballad “Precious” led by Mariam’s chiming acoustic guitar and a driving conga groove from Craig. A Native flute fanfare brings in the staid, solemn “The Golden Sunlight”, a gorgeous Native-classical hybrid decorated in Mariam’s mystical melody and lyrical Native flute passages. Mariam plays her baritone ukulele for the beautiful spring song “The Birch Maiden”, another evocative minor key ballad with alternately authoritative and playful piano from Bob. The band raises the intensity and tempo to a driving, climactic jazzy coda before moving into “All I Want To Do Now Is Go Deep Within”, a whispering, evocative prayer to the healing power of being engulfed in creativity and “Listen To The Wise Ones” is a modern spiritual that begins with an extended Native flute showcase before moving into a mystical, hypnotic piece featuring bittersweet piano figurations from Bob beneath Mariam’s flute passages. Eve Cristoph joins us on vocals for this imaginative, extended exploration that eases through several movements and vibes seamlessly.
