Environmental lawyers and mediators assist clients in navigating complex regulations and meeting compliance requirements. While this may seem to be a dry topic, this episode will be entertaining and informative. Beyond regulation and compliance issues, environmental lawyers and mediators resolve conflicts involving land use or coastal access rights and work to protect our natural resources. We will discuss these challenges with attorney Marisa Desautel and mediator Clarice Parsons. Marisa and Clarice co-host a podcast series called “Environmentally Speaking,” where they discuss their work through an informative and entertaining platform.
Marisa is the Managing Attorney at Desautel Law, a firm providing legal representation in Rhode Island and Massachusetts with respect to a wide scope of environmental issues. Marisa earned her BS in Biology at Roger Williams University and worked for almost four years as an Environmental Scientist before going on the earn her J.D. from the Roger Williams University School of Law. Concurrently, she earned her MS in Marine Affairs. She served as Senior Legal Counsel to the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management for over 8 years prior to founding Desautel Law in 2015.
Clarice is a mediator currently living on the Rhode Island border. She graduated from New England Law in 2017 and got her first introduction to the environmental law field working with Marisa as a temporary employee. Invited back a year later, Clarice began her own environmental and land use education with the firm. Though she is a self-proclaimed “indoor cat,” Clarice has taken a recent interest in hiking and learning about the preservation and conservation actions to protect the areas she is exploring.
In this episode, we weave together some personal stories and spotlight the practice of Environmental Law.
