04-06-20 Keep Earth Beautiful: Stop Litter, Recycle and Engage in Ecotourism
Guests Donna Kaehler, Director for Keep Blackstone Valley Beautiful, and James Toomey, Director of Marketing, Blackstone Valley Tourism Council
As the 50th anniversary of Earth Day arrives in the midst of a pandemic, environmental educators are devising online learning solutions that accommodate social distancing, while also encouraging people to get outside to exercise and enjoy nature. As Earth Day goes digital, we’ll be talking about impactful actions we can take to help the Earth, despite the social isolation impressed upon us. Our guests will discuss the key messages “Stop Litter,” “Recycle More” and “Engage in Ecotourism.”
Donna Kaehler, Director for Keep Blackstone Valley Beautiful, the environmental education arm of the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council, works with nine municipalities along the Blackstone River in northern Rhode Island, reaching a population of approximately 260,000 residents. The council has led the transformation of Rhode Island’s Blackstone Valley into an internationally recognized visitor destination, rich in history and culture. Donna worked previously as Recycling Coordinator for two municipalities and has an extensive background in waste reduction, recycling and eliminating litter in the public areas. She explains how each person can do their small part, safely, to help make a huge difference in keeping the valley beautiful.
James Toomey, Director of Marketing for the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council, oversees tourism promotion of the valley, as well as the branding and messaging of the council’s programs, social media management, web development and graphic design. James will share tourism activities that incorporate social distancing.
