10-27-16 Illness as Your Friend
We have been trained our entire lives to resist any physical, mental and emotional pain. Yet, we often amplify our discomfort through our resistance to it, not realizing that we create more pain and suffering by trying to run away from it. Illness, rather than being a punishment, or something to blame yourself and others for, can be a doorway back into the ability to respond to life rather than contract and react. Mary invites you to consider the radical possibility of using your illness, whether it is a cold, a headache, a possible lump in your breast or even cancer, to discover how to unhook from struggle itself. To actually be present for yourself when you are in discomfort is one of the most powerfully healing practices you can do.
