Dave Raymond was the original Phillie Phanatic .. and for those of us that aren’t as familiar with the mascot world; know that the Phillie Phanatic (Dave) changed the way mascots engaged with fans. Mascots represent fun, period. Dave’s instructions when first joining as the Phillie Phanatic back in 1978 was to have fun and keep it G-rated.
In this episode, Dave shares his struggles in life ranging from losing his mother to suicidal ideation and how he overcame it. Dave now spends his time sharing his message on stages and teaching the tools to utilize fun (and silliness) as a superpower.
