10-22-26 Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #690 is an intrepid, assured hour of visionary acoustic improvised music and songs by Mariam Massaro played by The Gaea Star Band with Mariam on vocals, Native flute, Celtic harp, acoustic guitar, shruti box, mandolin and ukulele, Bob Sherwood on piano and Craig Harris on Native drum. Recorded live at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts in mid-October of 2026, today’s show begins with the kinetic, racing forest song “Oh Life”, a sparse, funky rocker with the band in Native drum-dulcimer-piano formation and featuring passionate, energized Native flute solos from Mariam. Clocking in at an epic 15 minutes of varied movements and cul de sacs, “Oh Life” sets a powerful tone for today’s show. “Profound Moment To Be The One To Lead Your Way” is another funky, syncopated workout with a pulsating, electronically-assisted piano, wide-ranging vocal explorations from Mariam and throbbing earth drumming from Craig. “Squirrels In The Trees In The Morning” is a hushed exploration of an autumn morning featuring more imaginative Native flute passages and lush piano movements and “Oh, Let It Take You Home” is a pretty, moving acoustic-guitar based folk song with a relaxed vibe and a lovely, emotional vocal from Mariam. “Becoming Peaceful” is a gorgeous, spacious Native-flute-and-piano feature with soaring flute and bittersweet, gospel piano accompaniment that blooms into a comforting, embracing lyric from Mariam that celebrates the table of crystals from Amarite to Malacite. Mariam provides the mystical shruti box drone upon which the band creates “Seeking Deeply Within”, a beautiful, exotic raga that expands and floats through all manner of mysterious harmonic alleyways. “Waves Of Light” is another evocative raga-flavored song, this time built around Mariam’s chiming mandolin and we conclude today’s show with a driving, high-energy blues inflected reading of Mariam’s Incan cave song “Amaru Machay” from the “Gaea Star Goddesses” album.
