10-22-21 Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #464 is an hour of visionary improvisational music featuring the Gaea Star Band with Mariam Massaro on vocals, Native flute, Celtic harp, acoustic guitar and ukulele, Bob Sherwood on piano and Craig Harris on congas and Native drums.  Recorded live at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington Massachusetts in September 2021, today’s show begins with the meditative, zen-like chant “In A Thousand Directions”, featuring a peaceful recital from Mariam, before moving into the folk blues of “Sometimes”, an upbeat song with a ragtime component.  “Standing Like A Tree” is a gypsy dance driven by Mariam’s chiming ukulele and Bob’s Eastern Europe piano figurations.  “Step On The Button To Change The World” is a meditation on visualizing change in the world and in our lives sung to a hypnotic, classically-influenced piano accompaniment and liberally adorned with excellent Native flute from Mariam.  The band eases into the meditative “Oh May We Never Turn Away From Our Grace” before downshifting into the whispering, echoing “Salamini”, a haunting piece with a surreal, graceful vocal from Mariam as well as more mesmerizing flute passages.  “Oh The Rain” is a gorgeous, somber minor ballad led by Mariam’s acoustic guitar and steady Native pulses from Craig.  Bob develops a funky left-hand figure and adds bluesy lead piano to the mix.  “Pele”, the rousing Hawaiian track from Mariam’s “Gaea Star Goddesses” cd is given a supertight, energized reading and we conclude today’s show with the achingly beautiful ballad “We’re All Right”.
