Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #239

12-01-16   Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #239 is recorded at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts on Halloween 2016 and features Mariam Massaro on vocals, 12-string acoustic guitar, native flute and sitar, Craig Harris on congas, tabla and balophone and Bob Sherwood on piano.  Today we open with the powerful “Standing Strong With Standing Rock”, an epic psychedelic rock song that expresses firm unity with the anti-DAPL movement at Standing Rock Reservation.  Beautiful and untamed, the piece features complete commitment and complete passion from the players and a deeply felt message of unity from Mariam.  “On This Sacred Ground” follows fast on the heels, another completely committed performance from the Gaea Star Band, featuring fire in the performance and drama in the vocal.  The tension is broken at last by the pretty, epic minor ballad “Blue Heavenly Rays Of Dreams”, which floats on lush, visionary poetry from Mariam and patient, passionate rhythm from Craig on congas and Bob on piano.  Gospel strains welcome Mariam’s native flute in clouds of galactic echo.  The piece slowly rises to a driving crescendo, a powerful eastern evocation laced with passionate poetry from Mariam.  A seamless edit welcomes the bright, fast folk of “Merrily We Flow Along” with a message of hope from Mariam.  “Listen To The Elders” is a stately piece in minor and yet another song of connection to Standing Rock.  For today’s final piece “You Are The Ones To Unify” Mariam moves to the sitar and Craig to the tabla for this dramatic evocation of ceremony.
