A Lifelong Love for Horses

This week, Sally is pleased to welcome Leslie Desmond, a lifelong horsewoman whose background in freelance photojournalism dovetailed well with her career in horses.  At a mere 11 years of age, she was already teaching beginning riders for $50 a week at a local summer camp.  Over the years, Leslie’s work with horses included caring for thoroughbreds, Arabians, quarter horses, draft horses, Iberian breeds and more, as well as working with riders from all disciplines.  In 1984, Leslie and her husband started a riding stable in Berkshire County, Massachusetts, and later after they relocated to California, she co-authored and published their classic training manual,  True Horsemanship Through Feel, chronicling the training philosophies and techniques she now demonstrates to her students around the world.  Decades later, her passion continues to grow as she dedicates her time to writing articles about horses, their care, handling and training.  This is a rare opportunity to hear Leslie talk with Sally about her love for horses and what she does to help people get comfortable around them – for both competition and enjoyment.  Tune in for this special show!
