BARF from Down Under

In this episode, Dr. Judy Morgan will be interviewing world renowned author, educator, nutritionist and holistic veterinary surgeon Dr. Ian Billinghurst of Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia.  While he’s retired from his small animal practice, Dr. Billinghurst remains quite busy with activities such as consultations on evolutionary nutrition and the production of Dr. B’s BARF, which is his own brand of raw Pet Foods.  Dr. Billinghurst is also developing a new line of raw diets designed to deal specifically with a wide range of degenerative diseases, including the current focus of his work – cancer and the fact that we’ve got it entirely wrong.  His presentations to members of his own profession emphasize effective nutritional treatment programs for both cats and dogs that can be used the very next day in clinical practice.  What is evolutionary nutrition and how can it be used to prevent and treat cancer?  You will not want to miss this rare opportunity to hear Dr. Billinghurst and Dr. Morgan discuss his ground breaking work on the relationship of nutrition and cancer.

Who Will Care for Your Pet?

This week, Dr. Judy Morgan will be talking with Stephanie Grogan, of Grogan Law Offices in Bethesda, MD, who will be discussing how to plan for your pets’ future when the unexpected occurs.  In addition to her extensive career in law including her own firm, Stephanie is also the proud owner of a pair of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and therefore has a vested interest in this week’s topic.  Tune in to hear Stephanie talk about how to ensure your pets are cared for in the event of emergency or incapacitation as well as including arrangements for their guardianship in your will.  Do you know who will take care of your pets if you’re incapacitated?  What are the key considerations to include in a long term pet care plan?  Is a trust fund better than a bequest?  While you can‘t leave property to your pets, you can plan to make sure they have a good life and Stephanie will tell you how on this important show – you won’t want to miss it!

Dr. Morgan grew up in Pitman and Woodstown, NJ, where she graduated high school as valedictorian in 1977. In 1980 she graduated from Rutgers with a Bachelor of Science and received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 1984. Dr. Morgan is also a certified and accredited veterinary acupuncturist, chiropractitioner, and food therapist.

Based in southern New Jersey, Dr. Morgan currently operates two veterinary hospitals that offer an integrative approach combining holistic medicine with traditional Western techniques. Holistic practices such as chiropractic, acupuncture, food therapy, and herbal therapy, are utilized alongside conventional medicine to provide a full range of veterinary treatment.

The ability to utilize both kinds of therapies offers her clients many more options than using a single method of healing. In many cases, using this approach also allows earlier identification and treatment of impending problems.

Outside of the office Dr. Morgan spends much of her time working with Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and English Toy Spaniel rescue groups by assisting in finding, transporting, and fostering neglected animals. She is Chief Veterinary Medical Officer for Monkey’s House dog hospice and senior sanctuary. She also enjoys public speaking and giving presentations at local and national continuing education venues.
