04-30-20 Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #391 is an hour of visionary acoustic improvisation featuring the Gaea Star Band with Mariam Massaro on vocals, native flute, acoustic guitar, ukulele and dulcimer, Bob Sherwood on piano and Robin Rooney on djimbe and vocals. Recorded on an April afternoon at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts, today’s show begins with the gorgeous “Oh Rose”, a simple and yet rich, romantic song in praise of the flower. “Did You See The Moon Last Night?” elevates the mood of simple praise and gratitude to the night sky with an energetic vocal from Mariam set to a driving folk groove. The band opens into a spacious, evocative soundscape that sets the stage for a gorgeous conversation between Mariam and her native flute. “Tucked Inside The Glory” continues today’s theme of simple reverence and appreciation, couching an individual prayer for humanity in a mystical, spacious musical context and “Letting Go” is a mysterious raga driven by Mariam’s dulcimer and Robin’s steady djimbe and soaring background vocals. Driving to a powerful peak, the song releases into a beautiful coda with the introduction of an unusually evocative piano figure from Bob and more of Mariam’s voice and flute dialogue. We conclude today’s show with Mariam’s “Rialia”, a deeply beautiful and simple minor folk ballad full of suggestion and mystery.
