War by Janine Ouellette Sullivan
Modern day war
How does it play
Once upon a time
It was to score
Land for a big pay day
Reduce population on whose dime
Modern day war
Looks like a plague
Feels like then end of the world
What is all this for
Oh please I beg
What has our sleep unfurled.
Modern day battled
Not that different from the past
Powerful get their demand
Are we sheep or cattle
Fearing the blast
Oh what fire our quietude fanned.
Modern day alienation
Keeping us apart
Ideas rarely shared
Deceleration
Hitting humanity at its heart
Pandora too is scared.
Modern day war
Lift up your voice
Pick agendas carefully
Ask what the rules are for
Never let go of choice
Live post war freely.

Oh if only they would pick agendas carefully. Wars are a topic I find very difficult. Our boys are sent to fight. Our BOYS, really that is all they are. Does the magic number 18 make them men ready for war? I think not!
Janine’s poetry hits a spot within that brings us to a place of evaluating ourselves and life.
