Ngozi Okaro chose sustainable fashion as an anti-racist practice.
What unfolds is a conversation about what our clothes say about us, and the people and systems we rarely see behind them. Verta, Naa, and Ngozi trace a line from cotton and enslaved labor to today’s garment industry, exploring race, gender, exploitation, overproduction, and the often invisible labor behind what we wear.
But this isn’t about becoming the perfect ethical shopper. It’s also about creativity, personal style, buying what we love, keeping it longer, and making choices that better reflect our values, while recognizing that consumers alone cannot fix a systemic problem.
Because getting dressed is personal.
But the systems behind what we wear are anything but.
