Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #206

03-17-16  “Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #206 begins with Mariam Massaro’s lovely and mysterious “Let’s Set Our Lives Free”, featuring the Gaea Star Band with Mariam on vocals and native flute, Bob Sherwood on piano and Craig Harris on congas.  Several motifs and tempos flourish, the common element being Mariam’s elegant, evocative native flute.  Today’s second piece, “Angelina Mocha Hey” features Craig on marimbas and Mariam moving to the celtic harp.   Mariam punctuates this unusually cloud like and floating piece with blues harmonica and Bob enhances the flowing nature of the song with hand-over-hand arpeggios all the way up and down the keyboard.  “Sidewinder Charlie” is a bluesy song about a little girl and an initially standoffish but ultimately friendly snake.  The next song, “Sweetly Singing Softly” is a lovely, gently driving folk song with a gorgeous melody and featuring Mariam’s acoustic guitar.  Today’s final piece is the bittersweet “You’re Always In My Heart” a languid groove that braids in elements of the preceding piece into a slow, driving build.”
