10-15-26 Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #689 is an autumnal celebration of visionary improvised acoustic music by The Gaea Star Band with Mariam Massaro on vocals, Native flute, shruti box, nylon-string guitar, marimba, ukulele and Celtic harp, Bob Sherwood on piano and Craig Harris on Native drum. Recorded live in early October at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts, today’s show begins with the lovely, peaceful “Maples In The Fall”, a gorgeous Fall reflection with a fine vocal from Mariam, mellow nylon-string guitar, evocative piano and throbbing Native drum. “Alignment and Harmony In All Areas Of Our Life” is an unusual, exotic-sounding piece led by Mariam’s tight, rhythmic marimba and “Precious Life” is a powerful, gospel-inflected exploration brought in on waves of soaring Native flute. “Family Of The Stars” is a gorgeously formal song with classical and gospel influences with swirling Celtic harp and Native flute passages. “Spirit Of Fire” is an outstanding track from Mariam’s “Vision Quest” album and the band presents a lush, mystical, powerful version and follows up with another “Vision Quest” track, “Spirit Of The Forest” with a version that shows off Mariam’s powerful, active melody. “Thank You (Celebrating The 41st Anniversary Of The Peace Pagoda)” closes today’s show with a lovely, reverent tribute to Leverett, Massachusetts’ renowned Buddhist temple with rich Native flute, beautiful minor piano explorations, throbbing Native drum and another lyrical, peaceful vocal from Mariam.
