07-09-26 Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #676 is a fantastical, wide-ranging hour of visionary acoustic improvised music played by The Gaea Star Band with Mariam Massaro on vocals, Native flute and double flute, shruti box, acoustic guitar, mandolin, harmonica and 4-and-8 string ukulele, Bob Sherwood on piano and Craig Harris on congas and Native drum. Recorded live at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts in late June of 2026, today’s show begins with the mystical raga “In The Glory”, featuring soaring Native flute and vocal excursions before moving into the upbeat gospel rock of “Cosmic Ring Of Life”, an energized song driven by chiming ukulele and racing, precise piano. “Rays Of Light” is a classic of Mariam’s repertoire and the band delivers a tight, focused rendition of this fine country waltz. “Guided By Light” is a pretty folk pop song with a soaring, expressive vocal from Mariam over driving acoustic guitar and gospel piano and “Oya Mama Yay” is a driving, psychedelic series of powerful movements with electronic treatments unified by Mariam’s powerful guiding vocals. After the series of driving, energized songs the band brings in a peaceful, languid vibe with the pretty, stream-of-conscious “The Good Way” before bringing back the general high energy of today’s show with the driving, harmonically engaging “One More Day” a tight, bright, breezy song with throbbing Native drum from Craig supporting Mariam’s soaring vocal and double flute excursions. “Just Walk Away” is another Mariam classic, a catchy country rock song given a naunced, tight airing on today’s hour with a fine vocal from Mariam and we complete today’s show with the shifting, drifting majesty of the gorgeous, British Isles-influenced “Oh The Forest” featuring fine, interlocking vocals and blues harmonica from Mariam.
