Living on Purpose with Carolyn Romano
Living on Purpose is about creating balance, abundance, and joy. It’s about living in the center of our lives so that no matter what is happening around us, we can be at peace. Living on Purpose is about being “deliberately aligned” with the ways we are meant to serve and grow while staying open to experiencing life fully. Living on Purpose is a time for us to come together to remember our Divine selves, while we learn and wonder about, weigh and consider, and unpack and repack the mysteries, meaning, and sometimes madness of life.

Smoke Signals: The Unity of One Heart and One Mind
In this episode of Living on Purpose, Carolyn explores how our lives function as signals in a shared world, and what it means to live with one heart and one mind, individually and collectively.
Building on the previous episode, North Shield: Embracing Wisdom and Gratitude, and teachings from the Native American Path Cards by Jamie Sams, Carolyn reflects on presence as the first form of communication. Drawing from lived experience, caregiving, loss, recovery, and life at Charlie’s Place Healing Sanctuary, she explores how our inner life inevitably shapes the field around us, and how responsibility can be understood as relationship rather than pressure.
The episode then turns to the teaching of one heart and one mind, inspired by a prayer of White Buffalo Calf Woman. Carolyn speaks to the exhaustion many feel today, not from effort alone, but from inner division, and offers a compassionate reframing of unity as integrity, coherence, and honest presence, even amid fear, hope, and change.
In the final segment, Carolyn gathers the teachings into practice, reminding listeners that coherence is something we return to again and again through small, honest choices. She shares ways to continue this work through one-on-one offerings available at stan.store/carolynromano, by following Charlie’s Place Healing Sanctuary on Facebook, and through learning and practice with Tending the Sacred at tendingthesacred.org. She also previews Threshold Medicine: Ritual, Writing and Renewal, a Spring Equinox women’s retreat co-facilitated with Judy Tsafrir.
The episode closes with a reminder that when heart and mind move together, our lives become a form of communication, and the signal we send is one of belonging.

Shamanic Journeying- Online Gathering
with Shamanic Practitioner and Medicine Woman Carolyn Romano
The central “tool” for shamanic practitioners, shamanic journeying is the art of traveling within to the “invisible worlds” beyond ordinary reality. It is similar in some ways to a guided meditation and uses drumming at a certain rhythm to support a deeper meditative state through shifting brain waves. The purpose of a journey is to retrieve information for change in every area of our lives—from spirituality and health to work and relationships. I use Jamie Sams’ Native American Sacred Path Cards to tailor the individual’s or group’s experience and provide additional insight to support the journey.
In my own life, I have used journeying to help me heal, make decisions, and solve problems that sometimes seemed unsolvable. I even use journeying when I have writer’s block or have been stuck at a particular point in a grant-writing process, for instance.
Carolyn Romano founded Charlie’s Place Healing Sanctuary, an animal rescue that operates on a 25-acre farm in Massachusetts. Charlie’s Place currently cares for nearly thirty animals — from dogs to chickens to a very wise turtle — and the number is quickly growing. As it does, it continues to fulfill its mission of being a sanctuary for animals (be they furry or feathered or walking on two feet) who need a safe place in which to heal from illness, trauma, or both.
Nizhoni the sheep (and her friend, Zorro) are making the cross-country trek to Charlie’s Place in the back of a Kia Soul. On the face of it, the idea of driving several thousand miles to rescue two sheep might seem crazy. But at its heart, it’s an example of someone being the change they want to see in the world. And I think we can all agree that the world needs bold acts of kindness and love more than ever, as well as a real willingness to serve wherever we feel we’re called to.
