Be Brave A Wife’s Journey Through Caregiving, with author Florrie Munat

In 2003, my husband Chuck suffered an ischemic stroke followed by a diagnosis of Lewy body dementia, and I became his caregiver. His overnight transformation from an active, independent man to a disabled, cognitively impaired nursing home resident changed our lives in ways we could never have imagined.

Chuck Munat was born and raised in Chicago during the Depression. His family was perennially in debt, so he assumed that his education would end when he graduated from high school—where he was class president and newspaper editor. But two scholarships provided enough funds for him to earn a bachelor’s degree from Loyola University in 1956.

After driving a cab in Chicago and serving two years in the U.S. Army, Chuck became a high school English teacher, working at several schools in the inner city. After ten years of teaching, he moved to Connecticut where he became a writer and editor of a classroom newspaper for the Weekly Reader Corporation. Later he taught communication skills to minority students in the pre-nursing program at Greater Hartford Community College. He founded the Volunteer Genealogists at the Connecticut History Society and received their lifetime achievement award.

In my memoir, Be Brave: A Wife’s Journey Through Caregiving, I invite the reader to walk in my shoes as I discovered what could be rebuilt from our past life and what had to be relinquished. At first I thought I could not bear the “long goodbye” of a dementia illness. But over the six years I took care of Chuck I learned that our love had not diminished, only segued into something different. We didn’t know where his illness would take us next, but we trusted that our love would carry us through the journey.

Before becoming a caregiver I authored numerous children’s books, nonfiction articles, short stories, and poems. I worked as a reference and young adult librarian, taught high school English, and worked for a university press. Chuck and I raised four children, and our family hosted four foreign exchange students. I am currently a volunteer radio reader and Young Adult book reviewer; and I write and edit for the Lewy Body Dementia Association and several community groups. I live on Bainbridge Island, Washington, where I enjoy photography, the New York Times crossword puzzle, hiking, reading, and following Seattle’s underdog sports teams. http://www.florriemunat.com/

Dreams That Can Save Your Life: Early Warning Signs of Cancer and Other Diseases , Authors Larry Burk MD & Kathleen O’Keefe-Kanavos

An exploration of dreams as a spiritual source of healing and inner guidance for your health and well-being

• Shares stories–confirmed by pathology reports–from subjects in medical research projects whose dreams diagnosed illness and helped heal their lives

• Explores medical studies and ongoing research on the diagnostic power of precognitive dreams, including Dr. Burk’s own medical research

• Includes an introduction to dream journaling and interpretation techniques

Your dreams can provide inner guidance filled with life-saving information. Since ancient Egypt and Greece, people have relied on the art of dreaming to diagnose illness and get answers to personal life challenges. Now, dreams are making a grand reappearance in the medical arena as recent scientific research and medical pathology reports validate the diagnostic abilities of precognitive dreams. Are we stepping back into the future as modern medical tests show dreams can be early warning signs of cancer and other diseases?

Showcasing the important role of dreams and their power to detect and heal illness, Dr. Larry Burk and Kathleen O’Keefe-Kanavos share amazing research and true stories of physical and emotional healings triggered by dreams. The authors explore medical studies and ongoing research on the diagnostic power of precognitive dreams, including Dr. Burk’s own research on dreams that come true and can be medically validated. They share detailed stories–all confirmed by pathology reports–from subjects in medical research projects whose dreams diagnosed illness and helped heal their lives, including Kathleen’s own story as a three-time breast cancer survivor whose dreams diagnosed her cancer even when it was missed by her doctors.

Alongside these stories of survival and faith, the authors also include an introduction to dream journaling and interpretation, allowing the reader to develop trust in their dreams as a spiritual source of healing and inner guidance.

Larry Burk, M.D., C.E.H.P., President of Healing Imager, PC, specializes in teleradiology, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), hypnosis, and dreamwork. The author of Let Magic Happen, he lives in Durham, North Carolina. www.letmagichappen.com

Kathleen O’Keefe-Kanavos has spent years studying and teaching about dreams. A three-time breast cancer survivor whose premonitory dreams diagnosed her cancer, she credits her survival to conventional treatment combined with her dreams as a diagnostic tool. Kathleen is one of 20 case studies from a paper on precognitive dreams that diagnosed breast cancer recently published in a medical journal. She lives in Palm Beach, Florida. kathleenokeefekanavos.com

The New Cancer Paradigm~Mobilize the Mind to Heal the Body! With Avinoam Lerner

In Avinoam Lerner’s words: I am a Cancer Recovery Specialist, TEDx speaker and author of The New Cancer Paradigm. Mobilize the Mind to Heal the Body!

My innovative approach to cancer recovery highlights the multidimensional nature of our being and the need to treat illness not only on the level of the body but also on the level of Mind. I offer patients and survivors seeking to play a more active role in their care, a practical, meaningful and effective path to do so through my practice, workshops and coaching programs. This path allows those I work with to engage the creative power of their Mind to revive their body’s innate immune response, become more resilient and cultivate a mindset for healing and quality of life.

I believe that for true and lasting recovery we must transcend the mechanistic-reductionist view of disease and recognize that illness is a whole person event. Illness highlights our inherent need to evolve on all levels. It propels us to look deep within and live more authentically.

After earning my degree in Holistic Health from the Ridman International College for Complementary Alternative Medicine in Israel in 2000, I was certified by the National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH) as well as the National Federation of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) in the USA.

Much of my work is founded on the work of Dr. Ernest Rossi as described in his breakthrough book The Psychobiology of Mind Body Healing, Dr. Alastair J. Cunningham and his work with the Healing Journey method, and Dr. Al Barrios, a clinical psychologist and a pioneer in the field of immunotherapy.

Another source of inspiration for me is the work of Stephen C.Parkhill, a noted hypnotherapist and the author of Answer Cancer – The Healing of A Nation.

The potential for recovery goes beyond simply submitting to treatment. Your state of Mind is your greatest ally in the recovery process” – Avinoam Lerner
